Barbados women swept Bahamas to stay alive in tournament
PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 26, 2023.- Barbados swept Bahamas 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-20) in their third match on Wednesday to stay alive in the 18th Caribbean Championship in Paramaribo, Suriname.
It was their first win in the tournament and it means that the final round-robin game against Suriname on Thursday will be crucial. Both Suriname and Barbados must win that game to clinch a spot in the semi-final. On the standings the Bajans have now 6 points in the third spot. Suriname has 4 and Bahamas 5.
Barbados dominated the game. They forced Bahamas to make 45 unforced errors to 20.
Outside hitter Seale led with 21 points, joined by middle blocker Chapman with 12 points including 3 digs and 2 aces. For Bahamas opposite Curtis led her team with 13 points.
Shon Hurdle, coach of Barbados: “We haven’t one game yet in this tournament. So have to make some points and get into the scoresheets. Once u have a win is going to help the team feel better about them self. We are going to work hard against Suriname and fix our errors we made.”
Jason Saunders, Head Coach of Bahamas: “Barbados showed that they needed this match more than us. They played well. I must give them credit. We are going to be in de semi-finals despite this loss. I think we must learn out of this game.”
