PUEBLO EL PAO, SANTA CRUZ, Trinidad and Tobago, August 21, 2022:  Trinidad and Tobago (TTO-1) team of  Tysan Selvon and Britney Choon claimed a historic win over Jamaicans Jade Parchment and Andrea Ashmon 2-0 (21-18, 21-9) for the gold medal in the inaugural Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Under-23 Beach Volleyball Tour first leg final.

 

Commenting on the win, the T&T women who played unbeaten over the three days of the six-team tournament and did not drop a set said they were extremely happy to come out on top.

 

 

Selvon said, “It was a very competitive match and I would say it was our toughest test in the competition, and we are happy that we managed to pull through.

 

Choon added, “We just came out to have fun in a very friendly environment for the sport and we hope to continue to win as we go along on the tour.

 

 

Earlier in the semifinals, Choon and Selvon (TTO-1) defeated Amber Simons/Kaylee Trott of Bermuda 2-0 (21-14, 21-7) while Parchment and Ashmon (JAM)  outplayed Cayman Islands sisters pairing of Anjia Delapenha and Brianna Delapenha (CAY) 2-0 (21-14, 21-15).

 

However, prior of their semifinal win, Jamaica’s Ashmon suffered an allergic reaction to an insect bite and following their win, sought medical attention before returning to put up a determined effort in the final.

 

 

The second leg of the CAZOVA Tour will also serve off at the same venue in Santa Cruz from August 26-28 and will see teams from Suriname, Barbados, and Turks and Caicos added to the men’s competition.

 

 

Following the two legs in T&T, NORCECA is expected to host the Under-23 event in the Cayman Islands at a date to be confirmed while CAZOVA will play host to remaining stops in  Aruba, Jamaica, and Bonaire in December.
