Barbados wins second game in pool A against Martinique
PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 26, 2023.- Barbados won their second match 3-1(25-27, 25-18, 25-12, 25-15) in pool A against Martinique at the Anthony Nesty Sport Hall.
The Bajans second win in pool A during these Caribbean Championships means they go on top of their group standings after winning their opening match against Suriname on Sunday.
Martinique looks more confident in the first set. The Bajans came back with a 20 to 10 points from attacks, 5 blocks and 4-0 in aces. Barbados finishes the game in style forcing Martinique to make 44 unforced errors.
Outside hitter and team captain Oxley led Barbados with 23 points including 6 spikes, 2 block and 3 digs. Middle blocker Williams Akeil and opposite Akheem Mayers also contributed with 17 and 14 points each respectively. For Martinique outside hitter Jordan Marie-Antoinette led the team with 13 points including 2 aces.
Akeel Oxley, captain of Barbados: “The objective is now to reset and leave all the volleyball we played behind. To win the first two games gave us a lot of confidence and to improve each game.”
