MARTINQUE, December 6,2019: Tournament Director, Daymian Stewart and his Control Committee have given the all clear for the staging of the Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association (CAZOVA) Junior Championship  at the La Ville de Riviere Salee Palais Des Sport from Sunday, December 8 until Friday, December 13.

This year’s event will be a double-gender championship with both the Junior Men (Under-21) and Junior (Under-20) being staged simultaneously for the seventh time, and first since Barbados years ago.

The other years the tournament was held featuring both boys and girls at the same time were 1997 (Barbados), 1999 (Jamaica), 2001 (Suriname), 2003 (Martinique), 2007 (US Virgin Islands), and 2009 (Guadeloupe).

In 2005 Aruba hosted the Junior Men and T&T Junior Women, while in Jamaica (men) and USVI (women) hosted in 2011 followed by Guadeloupe (men) and Martinique (women) in 2013.

Two years ago, Suriname staged the Junior men competition while the women’s event also planned for Suriname that same year was cancelled.

For this year’s event, six countries will compete in both genders inclusive of host Martinique, neighbours Guadeloupe, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Curacao, and US Virgin Islands.

An following an inspection by Stewart along with the other Control Committee members inclusive of Cheryl Rojer (Chairman of Referee Commission), Brian Charles (Secretary of Referee Commission), Ronald Regna (President of the Martinique Volleyball Federation), Orson James (VIS Delegate), Phillipe Lirus (Photographer), Margaret Graham (Appeals Sub Committee).

Among the topics discussed and minor adjustments to be made ahead of first serve on Sunday from 1 pm between Barbados and Curacao in the Junior Men’s Championship were the layout of the playing court using the correct colour white marking tape instead of blue; the designated areas for players and officials; roles of line judges, vis officials, ball collectors and all volunteers as well protocols for all teams.

Following this another meeting was held under the supervision of Rojer and Charles with the referees, line judges and scorers where they were giving a full explanation of the use of the Electronic Scoring (E-Scoring System) which will be in official use for the time in CAZOVA.
