Trinidad and Tobago mean business in win against Curaçao
PARAMARIBO. Suriname, July 26, 2023.- Trinidad and Tobago earns their win against Curaçao in their third and final match in pool A. The Soca Boys came from behind and was 3-1(23-25, 25-18, 27-25, 27-25) victorious Wednesday at the Anthony Nesty Sport Hall.
With the win Trinidad and Tobago are now two wins and one loss in these Caribbean Championships in the group of death.
Curaçao looks more confident in the first set. Trinidad and Tobago came back with a 32 to 12 points from attacks, 4 blocks and 5-0 in aces. The Soca Boy finishes the game in style forcing Curaçao to make 40 unforced errors.
Middle Blocker and team captain Akim Bushe led Trinidad with 18 points including 4 spikes, 2 block and 4 digs. Outside hitter Daynte Stewart and opponent Joel Theodore contributed with 15 and 10 points each respectively. For Curaçao middle blocker Isenia Raygid Carlos led the team with 22 points including, 4 spikes, 3 digs and 2 aces.
Gideon Dickson, Head Coach of Trinidad and Tobago: “We needed to win convincible to finish either first or second in our group. The level that played in this group was enormous high. According how the results go both Bahamas and Jamaica can finish first and second, but we hoping we will play in the next round.”
Rigoletto Thode, Head Coach of Curaçao: “We did make a lot of unforced errors in this game. It’s that kind of match where the team who makes the least errors wins.”
